Phys Ed K-5

Grades K-5 are currently in the middle of their fitness unit.  On Mondays and Wednesdays they run laps, do sit-ups and push-ups, and stretches.  Sometimes the 5th graders do other calisthenics.  Currently 4th and 5th graders are up to a half mile and 3rd is close behind.  They are all really doing well.  My goal is to have them ready to run a mile in a few weeks.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays they are learning the rules to kickball.  This is a popular recess game, so it is good for them to all be on the same page with the same rules.  I am a big fan of teaching kickball because the same rules apply to softball and baseball.  My goal is for them to know the rules so well by the time they are in the 7th and 8th grades that they are able to play on instinct.

On Fridays I will let them choose what they do as long as it is something we have learned during this school year.

Phys Ed 6-8

Grades 6-8 are also in a fitness unit.  We start class on Wednesdays and Fridays with a half-mile.  The rest of the time is used with 1 minute circuits with 30 to 45 seconds of rest in between.  They do things like crunches, push-ups, mountain climbers, jumping jacks, agility jumps, and lunges.

On Thursdays the kids get a choice of kickball, dodgeball, or any other game we have learned this year.
